Mevrou Davids is not only one of the kindest teachers, but she is also one of the most passionate. I was blessed to be taught by such a driven lady. She is prepared to go over a topic with you as many times as you need and never stops explaining until you are fully confident. Every exam I have walked into, I have felt extremely prepared- all thanks to her guidance. She is the type of teacher that pushes you to achieve beyond what you ever thought you could achieve, and inspires you to work hard and believe in yourself.

FAQs
Frequently asked questions
Everything parents usually want to know before booking lessons.
Do you teach both the IEB and CAPS curricula?
Yes. I have taught Afrikaans First Additional Language for both the IEB (Independent Examinations Board) and the CAPS (Department of Basic Education) curricula, up to Grade 12 level. I'm familiar with the requirements, assessment styles, and exam formats of both.
Are online lessons as effective as in-person lessons?
Absolutely. I conduct online lessons using Google Classroom and video calls, with the same structured approach I use in person. Many of my students over the last few years have been online and achieved excellent results. Whether online or in-person works best often comes down to personal preference and schedule.
How quickly can my child expect to see improvement?
Most students see improvement within a few lessons, especially in confidence and understanding. Progress is determined by students' motivation and discipline. Significant progress in marks typically takes a term of consistent work. Every student is different, and I'll give you an honest assessment after the first few lessons.
Do you help with oral exams and speaking assessments?
Yes, oral preparation is an important part of what I offer. We work on pronunciation, fluency, prepared speeches, unprepared questions, and how to handle the oral exam environment. This is often where students gain the most marks with focused practice.
What does a typical lesson look like?
A lesson starts with a casual warm-up conversation. Next we focus on a specific topic and afterwards we do an activity. We wrap-up with homework for the next lesson.
Do you cover prescribed literature and setwork?
Yes. I have extensive experience teaching the prescribed Afrikaans literature and poetry for both IEB and CAPS. We cover context, themes, characters, language features, and exam-style questions for the setworks your child is studying.
How often should my child have lessons?
Once a week is the most common and works well for most students. Students preparing for important exams or who are significantly behind may benefit from twice-weekly lessons. We can discuss what's best based on your child's situation.
